At an incinerator, one of the sweepers sees a human body on its way into the furnace. Beck and his colleagues Gunvald Larsson and Benny Skacke take care of the case. They start by searching among recently missing persons. All but one can be defecated - the 14-year-old immigrant boy Paaren. Through a row of teeth saved from the oven, it can be established that it is the couple who were probably murdered. But the police lack both a crime scene and a motive.
